The Australian War Memorial is one of Australia's most iconic, innovative and award-winning cultural institutions, visited by almost one million people each year.

The Director works closely with the AWM Council, the Minister for Veterans' Affairs, DVA, ADF and the ex-service community. S/he provides leadership in the development of the strategic direction and management of the Memorial. Building on its standing within the Australian community and its international reputation, the role of the Director will also ensure the Memorial is appropriately focused on upcoming significant anniversaries.

The successful candidate will be a senior executive with substantial experience and a proven track record in managing a diverse and complex cultural institution. Experienced in leading multi-disciplinary teams in a demanding environment, s/he will possess negotiation and influencing skills combined with outstanding professionalism and representational capabilities of the highest order. The ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders and key decision-makers in business, government and the broader community is essential. An appreciation of, and enthusiasm for, military history will be highly regarded.

The Memorial is a museum, an archive and a centre for national public commemoration located in Canberra.
